China continues to pressure the island nation.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday voted to approve the “Taiwan Policy Act,” legislation that would significantly enhance U.S. military support for Taiwan. Provisions of the bill include billions of dollars in additional security assistance.
The bill now makes its way to the full Senate, but there has been no word on when that vote will take place.
China has continued its pressure on Taiwan, continuing to insist that the island belongs as part of the mainland and is not an independent democracy. Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week, where Ukraine and Taiwan will likely be agenda items.
